March Madness: Three things to know about NCAA tournament Sunday

1. CONFERENCE CALL: As good as Saturday night was for the ACC, it was that bad for the Big East. North Carolina State upset East No. 1 seed Villanova, Notre Dame edged Butler in overtime following the death of Irish coach Mike Brey's mother. And North Carolina returned to the Sweet 16 shortly after Utah rallied to eliminate Georgetown. The Big East is nearly gone from March Madness, with only Xavier remaining, and the ACC is 9-0 with potential to move to 12-0 today.

Meanwhile, the often overlooked Pac-12 is 7-0 with potential to go to 8-0 today. UCLA is the lowest seed to reach the Sweet 16, and the two region semifinal slots available to teams at the Portland site both went to Pac-12 teams, Arizona and Utah.

2. SUNDAY SLATE: By the end of the night — or, considering some of the tip times — by early Monday morning, the field of 68 will be trimmed by more than 75%. We ranked today's eight matchups in order of watchability, with Wichita State-Kansas at No. 1 Kansas not only is defending its state dominance, it also is fighting for the reputation of the Big 12 Conference hoop lineup.

Also worth watching: Gonzaga's attempt to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2009, and Virginia's second tournament shot at Michigan State in the past two seasons.

3. SEE YOU IN THE MONTAGE: We said goodbye to UAB and Georgia State on Saturday, but you can be assured they will reappear in CBS' "One Shining Moment" montage on April 6. We did our own tribute to Ron Hunter and his Panthers, who return to Atlanta in a river of joyful tears.
