March Madness: Three things to know about the NCAA tournament on Thursday
1. RETURN ON INVESTMENT: The four universities in the Final Four are spending a large sum on their coaches, but they are getting a large number of wins and positive attention in return. Kentucky's John Calipari, Duke's Mike Krzyzewski, Michigan State's Tom Izzo and Wisconsin's Bo Ryan were No. 1, 2, 5 and 10 in pay, respectively, according to a Paste BN Sports analysis of 64 of the 68 coaches whose teams made the NCAA tournament.
2. TWO-SPORT SPARTANS: Michigan State has been one of the best basketball programs in Division I during Izzo's coaching tenure. And its football program has something to do with it.
3. IN INDY: The teams will wake up Thursday morning at the site of the Final Four as fans and other basketball dignitaries descend on Indianapolis. Paste BN Sports college basketball reporters Nicole Auerbach and Eric Prisbell and columnist Nancy Armour are on the scene along with a number of writing and video colleagues.
The focus will continue to be on and off the court as local businesses and associations remain concerned about a controversial new Indiana law, but there will be basketball to witness starting Thursday. It comes in the form of the State Farm College Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships at Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse (ESPN, 7 p.m.).
