Rhode Island says coach Dan Hurley did not curse at Maryland players

Tempers flared Wednesday night between Maryland and Rhode Island during the No. 2 Terrapins' 86-63 victory in the final of the Cancun Challenge.

Both benches were assessed a technical foul late in the second half, and there was some tension between the teams before the awards ceremony after the game. But there were no other incidents.

Acccording to a report in The (Baltimore) Sun, Rhode Island coach Dan Hurley got into a confrontation in the handshake line and "made derogatory expletive remarks to Maryland players."  .

Rhode Island athletics director Thorr Bjorn dismissed the claim.

"After extensive conversations with our head coach, staff, and administrators who were on the floor for the post game handshakes, I am 100% confident that neither Dan Hurley, nor  any member of our coaching staff made any derogatory expletive remarks or offensive statements toward the Maryland student-athletes," Bjorn said in a statement. "Any report, rumor, allegation to the contrary is false."
