Saturday hoops spotlight: TV times for top games

No. 16 Purdue (19-4)

at No. 3 Maryland (20-3)

ESPN, 4 p.m. ET

The Boilermakers make their attempt to do something no other Big Ten team has managed yet, beat Maryland in Xfinity Center. The Terrapins haven’t dropped a league home game since joining the conference a year ago, though they nearly gave one up on the road at Nebraska in their most recent outing. Purdue lacks Maryland’s star power but has five players averaging at least nine points a game. The Boilermakers will need that balance to counter the hostile environment as well as the inside out duo of Melo Trimble and Diamond Stone.

No. 4 Villanova (19-3)

at No. 11 Providence (18-5)

Fox Sports 1, 2:30 p.m. ET

This Big East rematch should be well worth watching if it’s even close to the first encounter between these contenders. It might have a different look, however, as both squads might be shorthanded this time. Villanova C Daniel Ochefu is in concussion protocols and might have to sit out his third game, while the Friars’ leading scorer Ben Bentil is day-to-day with an ankle injury. Providence’s lack of consistent perimeter shooting was on evidence again in a midweek loss at DePaul. The Wildcats had no such issues in a home triumph against Creighton but might have a hard time maintaining their hot shooting on the road.

No. 13 Baylor (17-5)

at No. 12 West Virginia (18-4)

ESPN2, 8 p.m. ET

Neither team’s most recent Big 12 outing went according to script. The Mountaineers picked up a much needed road win at Iowa State, one of the toughest venues for visitors in the conference, while the Bears were outplayed at home by Texas. West Virginia might not be able to shoot as well on a regular basis, but Baylor PG Lester Medford will still have to deal with the constant full-court pressure that keeps the Mountaineers in most games.
