NCAA Division III teams combine for 316-point basketball game
Roanoke (Va.) College, the sixth-highest scoring men's basketball team in NCAA Division III, averages 95.6 points per game. On Wednesday it beat that average by 50 points. And lost.
Lynchburg College beat the Maroons 160-156 in double overtime Wednesday night in Lynchburg, Va., the highest-scoring Division III game in history. It broke the record set by Simpson and Grinnell (Iowa) in 1994, a 167-148 Simpson win.
Lynchburg got 25% of its points from one player, senior Austen Arnold, who had a game-high 41. Sophomore Bobby Ford made 8 of 11 three-pointers for 24 points.
Roanoke had two players score more than 30 points and three others score at least 20.
