No comment from Steve Alford on report linking him to open Indiana job
SACRAMENTO — UCLA coach Steve Alford did not refute a published report saying he has been offered a contract to become the new head basketball coach at Indiana University.
Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report and The Huffington Post on Sunday reported that Indiana offered Alford a seven-year, $52 million contract.
“I don’t have anything else to say on that,’’ Alford said of the situation Sunday after third-seeded UCLA defeated sixth-seeded Cincinnati at Golden 1 Center. “…I’ve already addressed that matter, and I’m not going to address it anymore.’’
Alford, who starred at Indiana, on Thursday acknowledged the natural speculation that he might be a candidate to replace Tom Crean, who was fired as Indiana’s head coach.

Referencing the 1987 national title he helped win as the Hoosiers point guard, Alford said, “I was part of that. I stood on stage with a great group of guys and won a national championship. It’s my home state. I played there. So obviously all that comes up, but I love UCLA.’’
UCLA advanced to the Sweet 16 — with a victory over Cincinnati on Sunday night — for the third time in four years under Alford and will play Kentucky.
