Nebraska adds two football players to fill out depleted roster in Big Ten Tournament

Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg announced that the Cornhuskers men's basketball team will add two football players to its roster for the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis.
Nebraska quarterback Noah Vedral and offensive tackle Brant Banks will join the hoops team. The 14th-seeded Cornhuskers (7-24) finished in last place in the Big Ten regular season with a 2-18 record. They face No. 11 seed Indiana in a first-round opener Wednesday, with the winner earning a matchup vs. No. 5 seed Iowa.
Nebraska is down to just seven scholarship players after it suspended guards Dachon Burke Jr. and Cam Mack indefinitely last week. Last Wednesday Mack was cited by Lincoln police for leaving the scene of a two-car accident and negligent driving. The pair was averaging a combined 24.2 points a game.
Vedral played in six games, including two starts, for the Nebraska football team. He played high school basketball for four years at Bishop Neumann High in Wahoo, Nebraska. Banks redshirted in 2019. He played three years at Westbury Christian High School in Houston.
"We're in March; anything can happen with this tournament stuff," senior guard Haanif Cheatham told The Lincoln Journal Star. "We see it every year. Just starting fresh, focusing, preparing to battle."
