As March Madness heads into its second weekend, the race to the finish line is well and truly on in another one of the other marquee men's college basketball postseason tournaments: the NIT.

A tournament that began with 32 teams vying for a championship trophy has been cut down to the final eight, and unlike the NCAA Tournament, half of the field for the NIT consists of Cinderella teams that did not receive one of the top 16 "exempt" seedings.

Over the next two days at four different college campus sites, four tickets to next week's semifinals at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis will be secured. Quarterfinal action begins at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday with Chattanooga taking on Bradley in Peoria, Illinois.

Others who are playing for a spot in Indianapolis include Oklahoma State, North Texas, UC Irvine, UAB, Loyola Chicago and Kent State. The Cowboys, who took down SMU — the top overall seed in the Dallas Region — in the second round, are the only Power 4-level conference team remaining in the field.

Who will head to Hinkle Fieldhouse? Will it be one of the two top seeds, UC Irvine and North Texas? Or will it be a true Cinderella at-large team like Chattanooga and Loyola Chicago? That will all be played out and answered over the next 48 hours.

Here's the latest on the NIT, including a look at the updated bracket, schedule, tip-off times, TV channel information and more:
