Teshaun Hightower charged with murder in Georgia, dismissed from Tulane Green Wave basketball team
Tulane basketball player Teshaun Hightower was arrested Saturday and charged with murder in Stockbridge, Georgia.
Hightower, Tulane’s leading scorer last season who previously spent two seasons at UGA, was being held in the Henry County (Ga.) Jail without bail on Sunday, according to an ESPN report.
He is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and battery.
Hightower averaged 15.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for the Green Wave in 2019-20. He declared for the NBA draft earlier this year.
Tulane director of athletics Troy Dannen issued a statement Sunday.
“Upon learning of Teshaun’s arrest this afternoon, he was immediately dismissed from the Tulane basketball program,” Dannen said.
The Lithonia native averaged 6.6 points as a sophomore for UGA in 2018-19.
According to a Henry County Police Department Facebook post, Hightower was one of six men wanted in connection with the investigation.
Hightower transferred to Tulane for the 2019-20 season after playing two seasons for the Georgia Bulldogs.
