Coach K takes leave of absence for back surgery
Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski will undergo lower back surgery on Friday to remove a fragment of a herniated disk and will take a leave of absence as he recovers, the university announced.

Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski had successful back surgery Friday to to remove a fragment of a herniated disc, the school announced.
Krzyzewski is expected to miss approximately four weeks following the procedure. Assistant coach Jeff Capel will lead the team in his absence, starting with Saturday's game against Boston College.
“Surgery went exactly as planned,” Dr. Allan Friedman, who performed the surgery, said in a statement. “Coach is in terrific physical shape and we expect a full recovery.”
A member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, Krzyzewski is the all-time leader with 1,056 career victories and has won five national championships at Duke.
