Monday hoops spotlight: Texas at Oklahoma

Texas (16-7)

at Oklahoma (19-3)

ESPN, 9 p.m. ET

Don’t look now — well, OK, go ahead and look — but the Sooners suddenly find themselves not leading the Big 12 but in a three-way tie for second. The surging Longhorns as well as Kansas also are in that mix, adding a bit of spice to the hardwood version of the Red River rivalry.

OU’s loss at Kansas State was just one in a string of surprising results Saturday, but it threw an already wide-open league race into even more chaos.

Texas is among the teams poised to take advantage after rattling off its fourth consecutive win, third in league play, against Texas Tech over the weekend.

That victory followed a road triumph at Baylor that announced the Longhorns are starting to buy into what first-year coach Shaka Smart is selling.

The Sooners and Buddy Hield should find the home environs more to their liking after a cold shooting night, but they’d better be ready for plenty of full-court pressure from Isaiah Taylor and the Longhorns.
