Jim Boeheim advocates gun control after 900th win

Syracuse men's basketball Jim Boeheim didn't confine his comments after his 900th career victory Monday to the happenings on the court. He also spoke about gun control in the United States.

The Syracuse Post-Standard posted video of Boeheim speaking in his post-game news conference about watching news coverage Monday of last week's massacre of children and elementary school educators in Newtown, Conn.

"If we in this country as Americans cannot get the people who represent us to do something about firearms, we are a sad, sad society," Boeheim said.

Boeheim made clear he was talking about control of assault weapons, not rifles. "I've hunted," Boeheim said. "I'm not talking about rifles, that's fine."

Boeheim concluded his news conference by saying, "If we can't get this thing done, I don't know what kind of country we have."
