Providence suspends Brandon Austin, Rodney Bullock for season
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Two freshmen on the Providence College men's basketball team who had been suspended indefinitely from game action won't play for the rest of the season.
The school said this week that Brandon Austin and Rodney Bullock are out for the remainder of the 2013-2014 season. They are allowed to practice with the team.
The school announced just ahead of its season opener in November that Austin and Bullock were barred from play for "not upholding their responsibilities as student-athletes."
Coach Ed Cooley said in a statement that student-athletes are held to high standards and that "we are disappointed in some of the choices" the two have made.
A school spokesman has declined to elaborate.
The Friars are 10-2 this year. They play UMass on Saturday.
