NCAA tournament preview: Virginia vs. Michigan State
No. 1 Virginia (30-3) vs. No. 7 Michigan State (24-11)
Time, TV: 12:10 p.m. ET, CBS
Where: Charlotte
Why Virginia Will Win: A healthy Justin Anderson starred in Round-of-64 victory vs. Belmont for the East's No. 2, scoring in double figures (15 points) for the first time since returning from injury and illness. Anderson broke a finger Feb. 7 but returned to play in the ACC tournament. Malcolm Brogdon was a beast in the opener, striking for 22 points, 16 in the first half. Those two must be at their best for the defense-first Cavaliers.
Why Michigan State Will Win: The Spartans struck a balance on offense they haven't seen much this season in dispatching Georgia. Denzel Valentine had 16 points, six rebounds and six assists. Travis Trice netted 15 points. Branden Dawson had 14 points, all in the second half. Bryn Forbes drained three three-pointers and had 14 points. That type of sharpshooting could break the Cavaliers' backs.
History lesson: The game marks the second consecutive year the Spartans and Cavaliers have met in the NCAA tournament. MSU dispatched UVa in the Sweet 16 last year in New York. The Spartans are 4-0 all time against the Cavaliers.
