Driver dies after crash that killed Cincinnati player
The 18-year-old driver of a vehicle in a fatal crash that killed a University of Cincinnati football player and injured two other college students over the weekend has died.
Sean VanDyne was a freshman at Miami University in Oxford. He just got married to his childhood sweetheart, Rachel, on Aug. 17.
He died at University of Cincinnati Medical Center Monday night, a hospital spokeswoman said this morning.
In a statement, his family described VanDyne as "a wonderful son and loving husband."
"This is a time of great sadness for our family...." they wrote. "We are grateful to the staff at UC Medical Center for doing all they could to save Sean's life.
"We loved Sean so much. He was fun to be around for all who knew him as a friend, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, grandson and great- grandson."
His wife added: "If anyone ever had a problem, they would call Sean, that's just how he was."
VanDyne was one of four college freshmen involved in the crash about 10:20 p.m. Saturday on Stahlheber Road in Hanover Township.
UC football players Ben Flick , Mark Barr and Javon Harrison were passengers in Van Dyne's 2009 Chevrolet.
Two people were thrown from the vehicle, and two were trapped inside when officials arrived at the scene, Butler County Sheriff's Office said in a prepared statement.
Flick, a freshman offensive lineman, was pronounced dead at the crash site.
