Clemson's Martavis Bryant to lose playing time due to gesture

CLEMSON — In his first two seasons at Clemson, wide receiver Martavis Bryant has had to learn a few lessons in maturity.

He'll learn another on Saturday.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said during his press conference on Tuesday that Bryant will serve a "team discipline" during Saturday's game against Wake Forest that will "affect his playing time."

Bryant made an unacceptable "throat-slashing" gesture following his first touchdown catch against N.C. State last Thursday. If seen by the referees, such a gesture would draw a penalty.

"I wish the refs would have seen it and called a flag," Swinney said. "Everyone missed it, but TV didn't miss it. It's not representative of what we are doing here. I bet he doesn't do it again."

Swinney said that Mike Williams, a freshman who is listed as Bryant's back-up for the game, will receive more playing time on Saturday.

Bryant is Clemson's second-leading receiver this season with 10 catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Williams has three catches for 43 yards this season.
