FSU's Lawrence-Stample out for season with torn muscle

The Florida State defensive line took a big hit this week as it was learned starter Nile Lawrence-Stample tore his pectoral muscle in the Clemson game and is out for the season.

"We found out yesterday he'll be out for the year," FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher said after Tuesday's practice. "You can't chance that. You can't rehab it. And it's a shame."

With Lawrence-Stample out, Fisher said that Eddie Goldman and Derrick Mitchell will be the two starters at defensive tackle. Senior Desmond Hollin and freshmen Derrick Nnadi and Demarcus Christmas will see more snaps as well.

Fisher said Lawrence-Stample, a junior, finished the game on Saturday with the torn pectoral.

"Nile's tough," Fisher said, shaking his head.

When asked how often that happens, a player finishing a game with an injury like that, Fisher answered immediately: "It doesn't. ... But sometimes in games that will happen. You get that adrenaline flowing and you know you're hurting, but (you don't think) you're hurt.

"Coming off the knee (injury) and then to do that, I have a lot of respect for what Nile was doing. Big time."
