WHAT'S AT STAKE
Kansas is looking for its win over Texas since 1938 in the Big 12 opener for both teams. The Longhorns have won 11 straight in the series — all lopsided. Texas wants to even its record with a difficult stretch of games coming.
KEY MATCHUP
Kansas' balanced rushing attack vs. Texas run defense. The Jayhawks are averaging 200 yards rushing per game, led by Corey Avery (213 yards) and De'Andre Mann (212). The Longhorns have been strong against the pass but are 89th nationally in rushing defense, allowing 183 yards per game.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kansas: RB Tony Pierson ran 74 yards for a touchdown on the first offensive play of last week's 24-10 win over Central Michigan. It was the longest play for the Jayhawks since Pierson caught a 77-yard pass at Rice last September. He is the team's leading receiver with nine catches for 124 yards with a touchdown.
Texas: QB Tyrone Swoopes makes his first start since the school announced that David Ash was giving up football because of concussions. Swoopes started the previous two games while Ash was sidelined. He threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions in a 20-17 loss to No. 11 UCLA.

The Longhorns have 13 sacks in the first three games and rank sixth nationally at 4.3 per game. Malcom Brown leads with 3 1/2. ...
