Washington State QB Connor Halliday carted off field vs. USC
Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday, the FBS leader in passing yards, was carted off the field after suffering what appears to be a serious right leg injury during the first quarter of Saturday's game against USC.
Halliday was tackled by USC's Leonard Williams and landed awkwardly following a pass. After the play he remained down, screaming in pain. USC quarterback Cody Kessler was seen comforting a screaming Halliday, who left the field with an air cast and rushed to surgery. The senior may be done for the season.
Washington State coach Mike Leach does not publicly discuss injuries. He said after the game that Halliday was taken into surgery, but he declined to release any other details.
"Connor's huge," Leach said. "Most of his contributions to the program are ones that the public doesn't have a full appreciation of, but his contributions to this program are gigantic."
Halliday, a senior, leads the nation with 3,833 passing yards. He has completed 67.3% of his passes, including 32 touchdowns. Most notably, in a loss to Cal on Oct. 4, he set the single-game FBS record with 734 passing yards.
Luke Falk, the Cougars' backup QB, replaced Halliday for the remainder of the game. He completed 38 of 57 passes for 370 yards and two touchdowns and one interception.
Also, USC announced that star defender Su'a Cravens would not return to the game due to a knee sprain and will be tested for damage when the team returns to Los Angeles.
