Air Force close to hiring new athletics director

The Air Force Academy is close to hiring Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute athletics director Jim Knowlton to the same position, a person with knowledge of the matter told Paste BN Sports.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the school had not made made a public announcement.

Knowlton previously worked at Army in multiple capacities, including as deputy athletics director between 2003 and 2006. Knowlton played hockey at West Point.

Knowlton would succeed Hans Mueh, who is retiring after 10 years as Air Force's athletics director.
