Ex-TCU star DeVonte Fields commits to Louisville

The Louisville football team picked up a highly regarded recruiting commitment Monday from tall four-star wide receiver Devante Peete two days before national signing day. He's rated four stars and is nationally ranked by ESPN.com.

Peete, a 6-5 player from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., announced his pledge on Twitter, picking U of L over Florida State primarily. At one point or another in the recruiting process, he held scholarship offers from a long list of national powers, including Auburn, Alabama, Ohio State and Miami.

Among major recruiting websites, ESPN holds Peete in highest regard, ranking him the No. 213 senior overall in the country and the No. 26 wide receiver. He's the third-best player in the Cardinals' 26-man class, behind top-ranked junior-college defensive end Devonte Fields, who committed Sunday, and Alabama high school receiver Traveon Samuel, who's already enrolled at Louisville.

Peete, who's big enough to play tight end, is also rated four stars by Rivals.com, the second Louisville commitment to get that distinction from that site, along with quarterback Lamar Jackson. Last spring, Rivals had rated Peete in its national top 150.

He's also four stars on Scout.com, and he's three stars on 247Sports.com.

Scout.com has U of L's class ranked No. 27 as of Monday afternoon, the highest of the four major sites, thanks to the additions of five-star Fields and four-star Peete over two days.

An important upcoming Louisville decision will come at or after 9 p.m. from Georgia defensive end G.G. Robinson, who is committed to the Cards but is also considering Florida after visiting there this weekend. He'll say who he'll definitely sign with.
