Cooper Bateman starts at quarterback for Alabama vs. Ole Miss

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. — Second-ranked Alabama made a surprising quarterback switch Saturday night against No. 11 Mississippi, starting sophomore Cooper Bateman over Jacob Coker, who started the Crimson Tide's first two games.

Coker completed just 15-of-26 passes for 214 yards in Alabama's victory against Middle Tennessee last weekend while Bateman came in to throw for 98 yards on 11-of-17 throws.

Alabama coach Nick Saban expressed some displeasure with the play of both quarterbacks and left open the idea that the position would be evaluated week-by-week.

Bateman's first drive stalled despite completing 3 of 3 passes for 33 yards.
