Heisman Hot List: LSU's Leonard Fournette rises to the top
The Heisman Trophy race loses a quarterback in Cardale Jones, since his grasp on the Ohio State starting job is either tenuous or nonexistent. Besides, let's be honest: Jones hadn't played very well since being named the starter minutes before the Buckeyes' opener against Virginia Tech.
As one door closes, a window potentially opens for J.T. Barrett, who finished fifth in last year's voting but missed OSU's title push after suffering an injury in the regular-season finale against Michigan. Barrett may be in similar striking distance in November.
Alabama running back Derrick Henry is no longer our Heisman leader after the Crimson Tide's loss to Mississippi — even if Henry, who rushed for 127 yards, was far from the reason for the team's first loss.
He's replaced by a Southeastern Conference rival, LSU running back Leonard Fournette, who has been positively outstanding. His tackle-breaking, team-carrying game against Auburn ( 228 yards, three touchdowns) was the highlight of the weekend.
