TCU's Trevone Boykin, Michigan State's Connor Cook leave with injuries
Two high-profile quarterbacks — TCU's Trevone Boykin and Michigan State's Connor Cook — suffered injuries Saturday that knocked them out of their respective games.
Boykin, on many Heisman Trophy short lists, hobbled off the field with an injured right ankle in the No. 12 Horned Frogs' game against Kansas.
He walked gingerly to the locker room. On a play earlier in the quarter, Boykin fell awkwardly as he slipped while trying to cut and was tackled by Kansas linebacker Joe Dineen Jr.
Bloykin was replaced by Bram Kohlhausen in the first half. Kohlhausen was ineffective, and he was replaced in the second half by Foster Sawyer.
Injuries have been a huge problem for TCU, which also is playing with its top receiver, Josh Doctson, banged up. Doctson played in the first quarter but didn’t have a catch after injuring his wrist in last week’s loss to Oklahoma State.
Boykin was 5-for-8 for 54 yards before exiting the game. Boykin had thrown for 3,373 yards with 29 touchdowns and nine interceptions entering Saturday.
Cook bruised a shoulder in the first half in the No. 14 Spartans' 24-7 win against Maryland.
Cook was knocked down as he threw a pass during the first quarter and looked to be in pain when he went to the sideline. He was able to return to the game shortly after that, and played the rest of the first half. When the third quarter began, Cook was on the sideline wearing a headset and backup Tyler O’Connor was in at quarterback.
Cook was only 6 of 20 for 77 yards with an interception in the first half, and now the senior star’s health is in question for next weekend’s showdown at Ohio State.
