Video: Junior college player punches referee, arrested
Mt. San Antonio (Walnut, Calif.) College lineman Bernard Schirmer punched a referee and appeared to knock him unconscious during an altercation in a junior college game against Ventura (Calif.) College.
The Ventura (Calif.) County Star, part of the Paste BN NETWORK, reported that Schirmer was subsequently arrested on suspicion of battery.
Ventura won the game 35-29. Heading into Saturday's matchup, Mount San Antonio was ranked No. 1 by JCFootball.com and had beat the Pirates in each of the last three seasons, 42-14 in 2013, 27-3 in 2014 and 52-28 last year.
Saturday’s matchup, which featured the state’s No. 1 offense against the state’s No. 1 defense, was obviously a much different outcome.
