AFCA to televise annual awards show for the first time

The American Football Coaches Association will televise an annual awards show for the first time in a live hour-long broadcast on CBS Sports Network on Jan. 10, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The show, which is scheduled to take place a day after the national title game, will feature the AFCA National Coach of the Year. The awards show coincides with the AFCA’s annual convention in Nashville and will be held inside the Grand Ole Opry House.

“The American Football Coaches Awards offers a great platform to showcase the success of all 11,000-plus AFCA member coaches, while also recognizing a few who have had exceptional performances with their teams this year,” said AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry said in a news release. “We also have a special 30th anniversary presentation of the AFCA Coaches’ Trophy, which will be presented to the No. 1 team in the Amway Coaches Poll.”

The same 64 coaches in the Football Bowl Subdivision who currently vote for the Amway Coaches Poll will select the winner. The winners of the FBS National Coach of the Year will also be announced at the ceremony along with FBS Regional Coaches of the Year, FCS National Coach of the Year, Play Call of the Year and Comeback Coach of the Year.

The weekly Amway Coaches Poll appears on Paste BN Sports' digital and print platforms.
