Bonus pay: $150,000 for Nebraska's Mike Riley, more for Utah's Kyle Whittingam

College football's coaches' bowl bonus business started picking up in a big way Saturday, when Nebraska and Utah became eligible for the postseason by recording their sixth wins of the season.

The Cornhuskers' 27-22 win against Indiana all but assures coach Mike Riley of a bonus of at least $150,000.

The Utes' 19-14 win against Oregon State all but assures coach Kyle Whittingham of at least $155,833 — an amount equivalent to two months of his $935,000 base salary.

Whittingham already had secured a bonus of at least $15,000 for his team appearing in the national rankings at any point during the season.

That amount will increase to $100,000 if the Utes are in the season-ending top 25.

The bowl bonuses for Whittingham and Riley also will increase if their teams play in more than an entry-level game.
