Art Briles expressed interest, but is not candidate for Houston coaching job

Art Briles won't be returning to Houston. The former Cougars coach expressed an interest in returning as the replacement for Tom Herman, but the school announced Saturday he would not be interviewed for the vacancy.
Briles, who was 34-28 and led Houston to four bowls in five seasons at Houston from 2003-07, moved to Baylor in 2008. He was fired in May after a sexual assault scandal involving multiple players.
Houston is looking for a replacement after Herman left for Texas last week. Athletic director Hunter Yurachek released a statement acknowledging Briles was hoping to be considered.
"Earlier this week, Art Briles expressed interest to me regarding the Houston head coaching position," Yurachek said. "After discussion with University of Houston leadership, we developed a list of candidates to be interviewed that did not include Art."
