Welcome back college football: 2017 season kicks off

College football is back.
A handful of games kicked off Saturday in a soft opening, the so-called Week Zero, for the 2017 season — five games involving FBS teams, plus three other FCS games — starting with Oregon State at Colorado State in the Rams' brand new stadium.
The kickoff was a touchback.
Here is Saturday's full schedule involving FBS teams:
- Oregon State at Colorado State, 2:30, CBSSN
- Portland State at BYU, 3, ESPN
- Hawaii at UMass, 6
- No. 21 South Florida at San Jose State, 7:30, CBSSN
- No. 14 Stanford vs. Rice in Sydney, Australia, 10, ESPN
The season will end Jan. 8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in the College Football Playoff finale.
