Bowl projections: Preseason predictions for the College Football Playoff and other bowls

In the era of the College Football Playoff, a formula has developed for sorting out who will make the four-team field in December.
The champion of the SEC (Alabama) and the ACC (Florida State or Clemson) has been there each. So has a team from the Big Ten (Ohio State or Michigan State). Those conferences have made up three-fourths of the selections each year.
The other representative has come down to either the Big 12 or Pac-12 champion. Right now, it looks like Oklahoma and either Southern California or Washington will be the prime contenders to get that spot.
CONFERENCE PREVIEWS
POWER FIVE: ACC | Big Ten | Big 12 | Pac-12 | SEC | Independents
GROUP OF FIVE: AAC | Conference USA | MAC | Mountain West | Sun Belt
The Sooners are the choice in the preseason, helped by a tough non-conference game at Ohio State - win or lose - and their history of dominating their conference.

A reminder: Some conferences may not fulfill their bowl allotment. Asterisks denote a replacement pick.
