USC, San Jose State, Fresno State play as region is under excessive heat advisory

Temperatures are expected to inch toward the 100-degree mark during Saturday's USC-Western Michigan game, which could explain why the notoriously late-arriving fans weren't in their seats at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum minutes before kickoff.

Two other FBS schools will play at least part of their games under a excessive heat advisory: Cal Poly at San Jose State and Incarnate Word at Fresno State.

The temperature at kickoff at the L.A. Coliseum was 98 degrees, making it the hottest start to for a USC home football game since the Trojans' 1988 opener against Purdue (99 degrees).

San Jose State will offer 1,000 bandanas to fans sitting on the East side of Spartan Stadium and fans will be allowed to bring in battery-operated hand-held misting devices that can be filled once inside the stadium, SJSU spokesperson Lawrence Fan told Paste BN Sports in an email. Fan also said more EMTs will be on duty .

The temperature at 7:30 p.m. local time for the kickoff is forecast  to be around 95 degrees.

"San Jose State players were alerted early in the week to begin their hydration process for this game," Fan said.

The temperature Bulldog Stadium is forecast to exceed 100 degrees at kickoff of the Incarnate Word-Fresno State game at 7 p.m. local time.

"With Saturday's anticipated high temperatures, Fresno State Athletics will have cooling stations located in the north end of the stadium," Fresno State said in a news release.

The school's concessionaire also will have 20,000 bottles of water for sale.
