College of Wooster football player dies after complaining about illness

A senior offensive lineman at The College of Wooster died Sunday, a day after the school said he was "complaining that he was not feeling well" after Wooster's game against Ohio Wesleyan.

Clayton Geib, 21, was transported to Wooster (Ohio) Community Hospital on Saturday, The College of Wooster said in a news release on Sunday. College of Wooster spokesperson John Hopkins told Paste BN Sports in an email Monday that the university did not have an update on Geib's cause of death.

A message left with the Wayne County coroner's office by Paste BN Sports on Monday was not immediately returned.

"Clayton was a wonderful student and member of the College of Wooster community, and beloved by many," Sarah R. Bolton, Wooster's president, said in a news release. "Our hearts are breaking, and all our prayers and thoughts are with Clayton's family, teammates, and friends."

Geib was a chemistry major and a two-time Academic Honor Roll member for the Division III North Coast Athletic Conference.

Hopkins said plans to memorialize Geib would be finalized later this week.
