Attention, Iowa football fans planning to dress up as football players, security guards or NCAA referees for Halloween: You may want to rethink your costumes.

The University of Iowa athletic department sent an email on Friday that provided guidelines for Halloween costumes, should fans choose to dress up for Saturday's 6:30 p.m. ET game against Minnesota at Kinnick Stadium.

The restrictions -- some over safety concerns by banning props that look like weapons -- most notably included:

► No player or game official uniforms that, in the sole discretion of authorized law enforcement personnel, are so authentic in appearance that they might be mistaken for an actual player or game official.

► No authentic looking law enforcement uniforms.

In considering worse-case scenarios, as clearly the Hawkeyes' administration has, there's the concern of some random guy sneaking onto the field as a prank. The better-to-be-safe-than-sorry approach surely felt fitting to Iowa staffers.
