Heisman Watch: LSU quarterback Joe Burrow continues to pace field

This week's Paste BN Network weekly Heisman survey has unanimity at the top once again. The events of the college football weekend nearly altered the race for second place, but in the end that remained unchanged as well.
LSU quarterback Joe Burrow remains the leader, named first for the second consecutive week by all 21 official Heisman electors who work for Paste BN Network properties. He added five touchdown passes in the Tigers’ win at Mississippi, and now has 38 scoring throws for the season while averaging 368.7 yards a game through the air. The only negative Saturday was his two interceptions against the Rebels that was a season-high.
Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts holds second place after leading the Sooners’ epic comeback at previously undefeated Baylor. Though he committed three turnovers in the game, he made amends with four touchdown passes to help the Sooners keep their playoff hopes alive. He again received 15 second-place mentions in this week’s survey.

Two other signal callers are still in the mix to appear as finalists when the statuette is present next month. Justin Fields of Ohio State is in third. Following the Buckeyes’ romp past Rutgers, he has accounted for 41 touchdowns, 31 by air, and has just one interception for the season. Oregon’s Justin Herbert has moved into fourth place. He has amassed 2,662 passing yards and 28 TDs with just three picks.
A few non-quarterbacks round out this week’s survey, led by Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard. The nation’s rushing leader with 1,726 yards and 20 touchdowns was named on three ballots for his first mentions of the season.
Ohio State defensive end Chase Young, Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons and Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor remain on the radar as well.
