Podcast: Former Georgia, Miami coach Mark Richt discusses risks of playing college football during a pandemic

The latest episode of the Inside the Amway Coaches Poll podcast breaks down the Big Ten's decision to punt on the 2020 season and brings on former Georgia and Miami head coach Mark Richt to discuss how he'd handle leading a program through the coronavirus pandemic.

"There is risk in football," Richt said. "Football is a very physical, combat sport. Every time those kids play, there’s a chance of somebody getting hurt. We know that. Now you’ve got COVID, which is a different kind of risk. But that risk is there whether you play football or not. Again, you’ve got to figure out, where are these guys most safe?"

Richt, who stepped into television work beginning last season as an analyst for the ACC Network, also said that he doesn't miss being on the sidelines nearly two years after his surprising retirement from Miami.

"Not yet. Especially this year. I’ve kind of been glad I’m not dealing with it. If it was a normal year, maybe so."

The episode also includes a conversation with Ryan Aber, the Oklahoma Sooners beat writer for The Oklahoman
