TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — It appears Bobby Bowden's stay at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare will last for a few more days.

Florida State's legendary football coach had hoped to be released Wednesday

However, Bowden's oldest son Steve told the Tallahassee Democrat Tuesday evening that it expects to be a few more days before that happens.

Steve said physicians want to make sure Bowden is strong enough to return to his Florida home.

Bowden has been hospitalized for the past eight days undergoing treatment for COVID-19. He tested negative for the disease on Monday.

“His mind is great,” Steve Bowden said. “Our wish is that he comes home and recovers well.”

Bowden was readmitted into the hospital last Tuesday for fatigue — three days after being told by his family physician that he had tested positive for COVID-19

Bowden's symptoms have included fever, a loss of appetite and a deep cough.

"I have been blessed, really," Bowden told the Democrat Tuesday in a telephone interview. "People are dying from this."
