Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver Markus Allen arrested on concealed weapon charge

MADISON, Wis. – Markus Allen, a reserve wide receiver on the Wisconsin Badgers football team, was arrested Saturday during the annual Mifflin Street Block Party.

As a result, his status with the team is uncertain.

According to the Dane County (Wis.) Sherriff’s office, Allen was taken to the Dane County Jail but was eventually released on bail and has a court hearing on June 26.

According to a report by Madison Police, a stolen handgun was recovered during the arrest.

UW officials are aware of Allen's arrest.

Allen, from Dayton, Ohio, is preparing for his redshirt sophomore season. He played in six games last season and finished with seven catches for 91 yards.

He decided to transfer after not playing in Wisconsin's Oct. 15 game at Michigan State. He announced last November he planned to sign with rival Minnesota but changed his mind after Luke Fickell was hired and returned to UW.

Allen was on the team during spring ball but did not participate in practices during the last two weeks.
