It's time for the first 12-team College Football Playoff matchup.

No. 9 Indiana (11-1, 8-1 Big Ten) travels to take on No. 3 Notre Dame (11-1) in an in-state matchup between the Nos. 10 and 7 seeds, respectively. The first game of the 12-team era will be featured in primetime on Friday as the day's only playoff game. The game will be broadcast on ABC.

Despite being separated by less than 200 miles, the two schools have faced off 29 times in their respective histories. The last matchup occurred on Sept. 7, 1991, when the Fighting Irish defeated the Bulldogs 49-27 in South Bend, Indiana. Notre Dame leads the series between the programs 23-5-1. The Hoosiers' last win over Notre Dame was 20-7 on Oct. 21, 1950.
