Army football missed out on an opportunity for a program first in its loss to Navy to end the season.

However, the No. 18 Black Knights (11-2) still have a shot at history on Saturday in the Independence Bowl against Louisiana Tech (5-7). With one more win, Army will break the program record for most wins in a season. The Black Knights won 11 games in 2018 and can eclipse the program record in Shreveport, Louisiana.

On the other sideline is Louisiana Tech, which got the bowl game nod, despite finishing 5-7, after Marshall notified officials of its intent to withdraw due to a mass exodus of players in the transfer portal. The Bulldogs are playing in their first bowl game since the 2019 Independence Bowl, when they defeated Miami 14-0.

Army is 2-0 all-time against Louisiana Tech, with the first matchup occurring in 2008. The last time the teams squared off was a 35-16 win for the Black Knights in Dallas on Sept. 28, 2013.
