The College Football Playoff has been narrowed down to two teams who survived the first-ever 12-team format and are ready to compete for a national championship.
Quarterback Will Howard and the Ohio State Buckeyes will face quarterback Riley Leonard and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Monday night for the chance to be crowned kings of college football.
Both quarterbacks are in their first year with their programs after transferring in from other teams. Howard has completed 292 of his 402 pass attempts for 3,779 yards, 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as the leader of the Buckeyes' offense. Leonard has completed 247 of 372 passes for 2,606 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the Irish.
The Buckeyes have won eight national championships, the first coming in 1942 and the last in 2014. The Fighting Irish have won 11 championships with the first coming in 1924 and the latest coming in 1988. Notre Dame competed in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game but lost to Alabama 42-14.
Notre Dame's path to the title game included victories over Indiana, Georgia and Penn State. Ohio State beat Tennessee, top-seeded Oregon and Texas.

When is the College Football Playoff national championship?
The national championship game between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Ohio State Buckeyes is Monday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The game will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia – regular home of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United of MLS.
