Pittsburgh names James Conner a team captain

James Conner was diagnosed with cancer, Hodgkin lymphoma last fall. He beat it in the spring. This fall he will be a team captain for the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Talk about a comeback story.

The 2014 ACC player of the year tore his right medial collateral ligament in the 2015 opener, knocking him out for the remainder of the season. Two months later, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma.

Conner was declared cancer free in May and joined his teammates for the start of training camp.

Conner rushed for 1,765 yards and scored 26 touchdowns for Pittsburgh in 2014. Conner joins defensive end Ejuan Price and offensive lineman Adam Bisnowaty as captains.
