Lamar Jackson struggles in first half against Clemson, sets ACC record

Heisman-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson came down to earth against a top-tier defense, with No. 2 Clemson leading No. 14 Louisville 19-7 at halftime. He also might be hurting his chances of winning the Heisman Trophy again by struggling against the Tigers.

The dual-threat QB fared better on the ground (seven carries for 47 yards) than in the air (8-for-20 for 83 yards) but couldn't pick up much traction regardless in the first half.

One bright spot was Jackson's 30-yard run in the first quarter, which set a new ACC record for rushing yards by a QB (2,822). Georgia Tech's Joshua Nesbitt (2,806) held the previous record.

Clemson QB Kelly Bryant, meanwhile, looked strong with 238 yards on 17-for-27 passing heading into halftime.

Heading into Week 3, Jackson had already put together two impressive games to jump out front early in the 2017 Heisman race. He had 1,010 yards of total offense — both passing and rushing — through two games.
