Five-star high school football quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei picks Clemson over Oregon

The best anticipated recruiting class in Clemson football history just got better.

D.J. Uiagalelei, the nation’s No. 1 high school quarterback according to the 247 Sports Composite ratings, chose the Tigers over Oregon on Sunday.

"I'm all in," Uiagalele said. "Go Tigers!"

Clemson, which overtook Alabama and LSU for the top 2020 recruiting class in the nation when five-star running back Damarkcus Bowman joined the fold on Friday, strengthened its grip on the top spot with Uiagalelei’s verbal commitment.

The Tigers have never had the nation’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class.

Clemson has 14 recruits in the Class of 2020, with four of the players, including Uiagalelei, rated as five-star talents. The remaining 10 players in the class all have four-star ratings.

A 6-foot-4, 240-pounder who has drawn comparisons to Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, Uiagalelei passed for 3,366 yards last season, leading St. John Bosco of Bellflower, California, to a 13-1 record. He completed 69.6 percent of his passes and had 48 touchdowns against only seven interceptions. Uigalelei also rushed for 312 yards and six touchdowns.

The Paste BN Offensive Player of the Year in 2018, Uiagalelei, joined by several members of his family, spent five days and four nights while on a visit to Clemson last month. He most recently visited the University of Oregon, his other finalist, for the Ducks’ spring game a couple of weeks ago.
