Sprinklers on field go off during game at Lane Stadium between Clemson and Virginia Tech

The game between No. 3 Clemson and Virginia Tech was delayed briefly Saturday night when the sprinkler system went off at the Hokies' Lane Stadium.

The incident occurred late in the first quarter as the Tigers were driving down 7-3. With 2:42 to go in the opening frame, multiple sprinklers on the field erupted into action, causing a brief stoppage of play.

Virginia Tech linebacker Dax Hollifield appeared to enjoy the short diversion as he danced over toward the nearest sprinkler and stood in its mists until they shut off. (Of note: the weather in Blacksburg, Virginia, was in the mid-30s Saturday night.)

"What's going on here, boys?" ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit asked, to which play-by-play man Chris Fowler responded, "It's 2020, Kirk."

The incident did not appear to slow Clemson's offense in any way, as the Tigers turned that drive into seven points and a 10-7 lead.

The game remained close at halftime as the Tigers led just 17-10, but they pulled away in the second half for a 45-10 victory that officially secured their spot in the ACC championship game.
