Florida State made a splash in the transfer market Sunday.

As first reported by ESPN, former UCF quarterback McKenzie Milton has decided that he will be transferring to Florida State for his final season of eligibility.

"You see Florida State, the garnet and gold, it speaks for itself," Milton told ESPN.

"The notoriety the people that have come through there, Deion Sanders, Charlie Ward, Jameis Winston, it speaks for itself. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity. It's something I don't take for granted, especially what I've been through the past two years. It's a very special opportunity, and I feel like we can get that thing turned around in the near future."

Milton confirmed the news shortly after on his Twitter account.

Milton, a former three-star recruit out of high school, only lost his starting job for the Knights due to a devastating right leg injury he suffered in 2018. The Mililani, Hawaii native elected to stay closer to his collegiate home in Orlando than return closer to his original home.

Before suffering the injury, Milton found a great deal of success leading UCF's high-powered offense. He led the program to its 13-0 season in 2017, throwing for 4,037 yards, 37 touchdowns and nine interceptions that year.

Over three seasons at UCF, he threw for a total of 8,683 yards, 72 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.

Milton's recovery from his severe injury was extensive, at one time casting his football future into doubt. But he was healthy enough this season to play quarterback for the UCF scout team.

Milton, who is back in Hawaii currently, told ESPN that he's expecting to enroll at FSU in January. He's expected to have one year of eligibility for the Seminoles.

What it means

The addition of Milton is a major boost to a Florida State quarterback room that desperately needed it.

With Luke Altmyer decommitting a few weeks ago, it left Florida State without a quarterback in its 2021 class. Milton changes that and brings a great deal of experience — more than the rest of FSU's current quarterback room combined — to Tallahassee.

Florida State's offseason quarterback competition will be a fascinating one to follow. Milton will contend with Jordan Travis, who has started the majority of FSU's games this season, and rising redshirt freshmen Chubba Purdy and Tate Rodemaker this offseason.

For FSU, Milton's announcement is the kind that could make waves in the recruiting world. He's the type of high-upside player that other transfer targets will want to play alongside.

Milton is the first of likely many transfer portal additions to FSU's roster this offseason.
