Mike Gundy sees Oklahoma State as 10-win team despite the 9-2 record

The standings show Oklahoma State with a record of 9-2, 7-1 in the Big 12.

But that's not the way Mike Gundy sees it. The Cowboys coach sees his team as a one-loss team, disregarding a controversial early season loss at home to Central Michigan when officials misinterpreted the rules, giving the Chippewas an extra play. Central Michigan used the extra play to score on a 49-yard Hail Mary that included a lateral.

Gundy, speaking Saturday after No. 13 Oklahoma State whipped TCU 31-6 in Fort Worth, referenced College Football Playoff committee chairman Kirby Hocutt's comments after the latest rankings were released.

“We treat it as a loss,” Hocutt said about the Oklahoma State-Central Michigan game. “It’s not within the purview of the selection committee to determine wins and losses. … However, the selection committee is aware of what transpired in that football game.”

Here is what Gundy said Saturday in Fort Worth:

"I know Kirby had mentioned that the committee feels a certain way about that game," Gundy said. "I think Kirby's playing poker and that they see us as a 10-win team. That's just my opinion."

Gundy has been consistent on this point: “Nobody will ever convince me that we lost that game,” he said earlier this week.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, for one, agrees with Gundy.

"In my eyes, they only got one loss," Stoops said. "You know, if you played by the rules."

The two face off Dec. 3 in the annual Bedlam rivalry game in Norman with the Big 12 title on the line.
