No. 10 TCU holds off No. 23 West Virginia, now only undefeated Big 12 team
No. 10 TCU survived No. 23 West Virginia's upset bid on Saturday night, pulling away 31-24, and is now the only undefeated team in the Big 12 left standing thanks to Oklahoma's upset loss to Iowa State earlier in the day.
The Horned Frogs' defense came up big late in the fourth quarter when it mattered most, and helped the team escape on a night when its offense was subpar.
TCU quarterback Kenny Hill scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2:53 remaining on a three-yard keeper. On the night, Hill (188 yards passing) scored three times in three different ways — by throwing, rushing and receiving. The most momentous score came on a trick play when KaVontae Turpin found him in the end zone for a 48-yard touchdown at the end of the third quarter.
Quarterback Will Grier piloted the Mountaineers' offense, finishing with 366 yards and three touchdowns. His top target was Ka'Raun White, who caught for 138 yards. Justin Crawford rushed for 111 yards.
