Ohio State's Braxton Miller says he's moving to wide receiver

Braxton Miller has turned Ohio State's three-way quarterback competition into a two-player race.

Miller told SI.com on Thursday that he has been catching passes from teammates J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones since the spring and is planning to play an H-back receiver role and punt returner this season for the defending national champion Buckeyes.

Miller is a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year at quarterback but missed the 2014 season with a shoulder injury.

"It's a long process to get back totally to throwing and throwing every day," Miller told SI. "This is the smarter thing for right now, God blessed me with a lot of talent and different opportunities. I'm going to have fun with that and still score a lot of touchdowns and help the team out and be dominant at that."

But is the move final? And will Miller actually get significant game reps at receiver when, six weeks from kickoff, coach Urban Meyer has never seen him catch a pass? Meyer told The Columbus Dispatch of Miller's position, “I haven’t made those decisions yet,” Meyer said. “It seems like it’s a little bit jumping the gun. Braxton came to see me. ... He’s been talking to me about it. We’ve been working at it. But I’m not ready to say exactly how we’re going to use him yet.”

In a conversation with the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Meyer said, "We won't know enough until practice starts how we can use him and what he can do," Meyer said in a phone interview. "I just don't know. He's a great athlete, but he's never caught a pass for us. So we'll know more and we have plenty of time when practice starts."
