Rutgers nears deal to name Ohio State DC Chris Ash as coach

Rutgers is close to finalizing a deal with Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash to become its head coach, a person with knowledge of the situation told Paste BN Sports.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the school was not ready to officially announce the deal.

Ash, 41, has helped build Ohio State's defense into one of the nation's best over the last two seasons. He also did impressive work at Wisconsin (2011-12) and Arkansas (2013) under Bret Bielema.

At Rutgers, Ash will be in the same division of the Big Ten as Ohio State. He will take over for Kyle Flood, who was fired after a 4-8 season and several off-the-field controversies.
