Ohio State assistant Greg Schiano hit cyclist with car on campus

Ohio State defensive co-coordinator Greg Schiano hit a student on a bicycle with his car Thursday morning, according to a published report. 

Emergency responders were called to an intersection near the Jerome Schottenstein Center where Schiano struck the 26-year-old male student around 7 a.m., according to the Columbus Dispatch. The cyclist suffered a head injury and was transported to a nearby hospital. He is expected to survive.

Schiano was not hurt, according to the newspaper.

The police are investigating the accident.

“We are very concerned about the young man who was injured,” said Chris Davey, assistant vice president for media relations, in a statement to the Columbus Dispatch. “Our concern lies with supporting him in every way we can.”

Schiano is in his first season at Ohio State under Urban Meyer. He previously served as Rutgers coach from 2001-11 and spent two seasons as coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
